One of the most anticipated regular season matchups in this NFL campaign was a re-match of last season’s Super Bowl. To paraphrase Led Zeppelin, the song remains the same.
Perhaps it wasn’t as thorough of a domination as in Super Bowl LIX, but the Philadelphia Eagles proved that their victory in New Orleans this past February was not a fluke as they easily handled the Kansas City Chiefs once again.
Taylor Swift, the fiancé of Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, arrived late to the game – but still was in attendance for her first loss at Arrowhead Stadium. The Eagles defense thoroughly exposed the glaring weaknesses the Chiefs have on their offense – holding Kansas City to just a touchdown and a field goal en route to a 20-17 victory.
Much like the Super Bowl, Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes faced relentless pressure thanks to a porous offensive line which allowed two sacks and eight total quarterback hits.
So poor was the Chiefs front-seven that Kelce berated the group just before halftime, slamming his helmet to the ground before declaring, ‘I’m sick of this s***!’
Kelce would later make a major contribution of his own to the Eagles’ victory as a bobble on the doorstep of the end zone in the fourth quarter led to a tide-turning interception.
In a flash, Philadelphia went from being on the verge of a three-point deficit to transforming the turnover into a ten-point lead they would not relinquish.
The Chiefs did try to break through, though. On their final drive of the game, Mahomes launched a 49-yard touchdown pass to find Tyquan Thornton to cut the deficit to three points.
But after failing to recover the onside kick, the Eagles got the necessary first down and let the clock run out.
