Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are the best of friends on and off the football field but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback hit Taylor Swift’s husband-to-be with a low blow shortly before his wedding in New York.
Swift and Kelce held an intimate rehearsal dinner at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night before a party at the iconic venue on Friday with 1,000 guests descending onto the iconic Manhattan venue.
Mahomes will be at the center of the party, with the Chiefs star and his wife Brittany becoming close friends to Travis and Taylor.
But the quarterback couldn’t resist taking a minor dig at his teammate in an interview with GQ this week.
Mahomes, 30, was asked which of his Chiefs teammates he would most want to go on vacation with and he delivered a surprising snub to the 36-year-old Kelce.
‘Obviously, the easy answer is Travis,’ Mahomes was quoted as saying. ‘But now that he’s getting a little older, I’m going to go with one of the young guys.’

Mahomes, 30, joked that teammate Kelce, 36, might now be too old to go on vacation with
He continued: ‘Xavier Worthy, he’s always having a good time. He golfs now, and I golf a lot. And my kids love seeing him because he’s fast – they like watching him play.’
Ironically, Mahomes and Kelce have been on vacation together before with their partners. They headed to Amsterdam together for one of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts in July 2024.
Mahomes was, of course, being playful about his close friend Kelce – who often makes jokes in public at the quarterback’s expense, too. Kelce has been known to mock the sound of Mahomes’s voice, making him sound like Kermit The Frog.
As well as being friends outside of football they are also business partners and owners of the Kansas City steakhouse 1587 – named after their two Chiefs jersey numbers.
He did also suggest in the interview that Swift’s songs haven’t been at the top of his playlists so far this summer.
When asked what he’d been listening to the most during the NFL offseason, Mahomes answered: ‘That’s a good question. I mean, it’s hard not to listen to the new Drake albums. There are a couple songs on each one of them that I like.’
Mahomes has been busy in the offseason going through rehab after tearing his ACL in mid-December during a difficult campaign for the Chiefs.
They failed to make the playoffs and there was growing belief that Kelce was going to retire.
But instead, he signed to play on for another season alongside Mahomes, who is racing to be healthy enough to play in Week 1 against Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.
