Former Philadelphia Eagles player Kevin Johnson was discovered with horrific injuries after being killed in a Los Angeles homeless camp earlier this year, it has been revealed.

Johnson, 55, was found dead in the encampment, which was located in the Willowbrook area of south LA, with stab wounds and what the sheriff’s department described as ‘head trauma’ on January 21.

And according to The California Post, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has released further details about the ex-defensive lineman’s gruesome death nearly four months on.

Authorities reportedly wrote that Johnson suffered skull fractures, brain contusions and a ‘total of five sharp force wounds’ to his neck at the encampment in Willowbrook.

It is also believed that he had traces of phencyclidine, the drug better known as angel dust, and methamphetamine in his system at the time of his passing.

Officers were called to the scene at around 8am local time after a friend of Johnson reportedly discovered him face down, unresponsive and covered by a tarp and other debris.

They also found a blood-soaked shovel, a crutch and a broken broom stick near his body, the report states, as well as part of a cut tree and a ‘rock/brick’ that was covered in apparent blood.

Johnson had multiple fatal blunt injuries, including brain fragmentation and ‘severe’ intracerebral hemorrhaging, having also suffered a fatal injury to his left carotid artery.

His death was officially ruled as a homicide by the medical examiner.

The retired defender’s family reportedly informed investigators that he was ‘an ex-NFL player but had been living a homeless lifestyle.’

‘He had a history of illicit drug use (methamphetamines),’ officials added, ‘and was using a catheter bag. He was not in the best health but could get around slowly with the assistance of crutches.’

It was later revealed that three other homeless people were killed in the same area, sparking fears of a serial killer on the loose.

Per TMZ, one of the victims was gunned down and another was beaten to death, and all murders were being investigated together given the eerie similarities.

All four murders were in the same area, targeted a vulnerable victim and happened in a short timespan between October 2025 and January 2026.

Johnson was a fourth-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 1993, spending time in Foxborough with the practice squad.

He eventually moved to the Minnesota Vikings before joining Oakland and then Philadelphia.

Afterwards he played four seasons in the Arena Football League for teams in Orlando and Los Angeles.
