The Department for Business and Trade has appointed three non-executive directors, John Alty CB, Patricia Gallan QPM and Guita Blake, to the board of the Trade Remedies Authority.
John, Patricia and Guita will join Adam Marshall CBE and John Hughes as non-executive Board members, led by Chair Nick Baird CMG CVO.

John Alty has spent much of his career in the Civil Service working on regulation, markets and business issues, with a strong EU and international dimension. He was previously acting Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Trade. From 2016-2021 he was Director General for Trade Policy, responsible for building UK trade capability and developing trade policy post the EU referendum. Other Government positions held include CEO of the UK Intellectual Property Office, and Director General for Market Regulation (“Fair Markets”) in the Business Department.
A former police officer, Patricia Gallan was Assistant Commissioner Specialist Crime and Operations of the Metropolitan Police Service, retiring in 2018. She is also a Non-Executive Director for His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and of two NHS Foundation Trusts. She previously served as Deputy Assistant Commissioner (Specialist Operations – Security and Protection), Deputy Assistant Commissioner (Professionalism) from 2012 to 2015 and a number of other senior roles across the Police service. Patricia was also a non-executive to the TRA Board from Spring 2021 to Spring 2024.
Guita Blake’s career has been focused on digital technology and she has a strong track record in senior executive business leadership and digital transformation, as well as operating in non-executive board and board advisory capacities. Having built her experience working with FTSE global, private and public clients across multi-sectors in B2B2C, her key industry experience includes financial services/banking, insurance, manufacturing, CPG/retail, and travel/transport. She has held a variety of international leadership roles across Europe, the USA, and APAC.
The Trade Remedies Authority is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Business and Trade. It investigates whether trade measures are needed to prevent injury to UK industries caused by unfair trading practices and makes recommendations to government how it can preserve UK economic interests.
