Tom Brady has risked the wrath of NFL fans after suggesting that Argentina’s dramatic World Cup comeback trumped an iconic moment in Patriots history.

On Tuesday, Lionel Messi’s Argentina scored three goals in just over 10 minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Egypt, progressing to the round of 16 in the process.

The sports world was left stunned as Messi and Co. clawed themselves back from the brink of elimination, with the 39-year-old scoring his team’s crucial equalizer.

Social media descended into a frenzy as fans reacted to the stunning comeback and, among them, was Patriots legend Brady, who heaped praise on Argentina team.

He wrote: ‘Yeah so that might top 28-3’, making reference to New England’s stunning fightback against the Falcons at Super Bowl LI 2017.

However, Brady’s post on X was swiftly met by furious NFL fans, who suggested that the seven-time Super Bowl winner had completely overstated Argentina’s victory.

Tom Brady has risked the wrath of NFL fans after suggesting that Argentina’s dramatic World Cup comeback – led by Lionel Messi – trumped an iconic moment in Patriots history

‘Tom, 28-3 was for the Lombardi. This was round of 16. Call me when they do it in the final with 8 minutes left,’ one user replied on social media.

‘This is nowhere close to 28-3…,’ another user bluntly wrote on X.

‘Not even close come on man, this is a common score in ‘soccer’ don’t sell yourself short,’ another fan said on the matter.

Famously, Brady’s Patriots were trailing the Atlanta Falcons by 25 points late in the third quarter back in 2017 – before going on to score 31 unanswered points to win the game 34-28. It remains the largest comeback in Super Bowl history.
