- The 2026 AFL season begins on March 5
AFL hard man Toby Greene has revealed the utter disdain he feels towards rival star Marcus Bontempelli.
The GWS Giants captain brutally revealed why he will ‘never have a beer’ with the decorated Western Bulldogs midfielder.
Greene and Bontempelli’s past came to a head during an elimination final in 2019.
The Giants skipper was charged with serious misconduct after making contact with Bontempelli’s face and pulling his hair mid-match.
Despite the incident unfolding several years ago, feelings of contempt clearly remain, especially with Greene.
In a trailer for the upcoming Final Siren: Inside the AFL to be screened on Prime, Greene recalled the incident which ignited the pair’s rivalry.

‘I’ll never have a beer with him.’
The comments come just weeks before the pair are expected to be teammates, with both stars recently named in the Victorian squad ahead of this month’s State of Origin game against Western Australia.
The duo also previously played together in the 2020 State of Origin Bushfire relief game.
Greene has played 261 career games for the Giants, while Bontempelli has 258 matches to his name after making his AFL debut in 2014.
‘Bont’ went on to win a premiership with the Bulldogs two years later.
