It is quarter-final time at the World Cup as France face Morocco on Thursday night.

England will look to seal a series win over India in the fourth T20I in Bristol, while the semi-finals begin at Wimbledon.

Here is a guide to what is happening in the sporting world on Thursday and where you can watch in the UK.

France face tough test

The first quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup is a rematch of a semi-final from 2022. Four years ago, France ended Morocco’s historic run when they became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup. Morocco have continued to progress since then, making this a stiff examination of France’s credentials as favourites to lift the trophy. Coverage starts on ITV from 2000.

England seek series win

After utterly dominating the third T20 at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, England will look to seal a series win over India in Bristol. Josh Tongue took four for 28 in Nottingham and Jofra Archer three for 29 as India were bowled out for just 76, their second lowest all-out total in T20 cricket, with the 125-run margin of defeat their biggest ever in the format. England will be firm favourites to finish the job. Coverage begins on Sky Sports Cricket from 1700.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are part of a star-studded field gathering at the Renaissance Club for the Genesis Scottish Open, though perhaps the most intriguing entry is that of Jon Rahm. This will be his first PGA Tour event outside of the majors since he joined the LIV Golf circuit in December 2023. McIlroy is looking to go one better after finishing joint-second behind Chris Gotterup 12 months ago. Coverage starts on Sky Sports Golf from 0830.

Coco Gauff has never reached the last four at Wimbledon before, but the American goes into her semi-final against Karolina Muchova as the highest-ranked woman left in the draw (BBC Two from 1100 and BBC One from 1400). The Tour de France heads to the mighty Tourmalet in the Pyrenees (TNT Sports 1 from 1100).

2006: Italy won the World Cup, beating France 5-3 on penalties after the final finished 1-1 after extra time in Berlin as Zinedine Zidane’s career ended with a red card for a headbutt on Marco Materazzi.

2017: Wayne Rooney completed an emotional return to Everton after 13 years at Manchester United.
