The Rolling Stones have ignited speculation among their fanbase with a cryptic Instagram post, strongly hinting at the imminent release of new music.

The legendary rock group shared a 13-second video on Friday to their 4.2 million followers, featuring their iconic tongue and lips logo superimposed over a dynamic background displaying various letters, words, and symbols.

The mysterious clip, which quickly garnered a flood of likes and enthusiastic comments, also included a snippet of an unidentified song playing in the background.

Further fuelling the rumours, the caption accompanying the post consisted of just two emojis, one of which was a CD, leading many fans to believe a new record is on its way.

This social media activity comes amid growing whispers that the band is preparing to unveil a new album.

Last week, the band teased the title of the new album on Instagram by sharing a series of images showing billboards around the world in locations including Sydney, Australia and Paris, France.

The billboards feature the Rolling Stones logo and the same phrase repeated in various languages, suggesting that the new record will be titled Foreign Tongues.

If released, it would mark their first studio effort since their 2023 Grammy Award-winning success, Hackney Diamonds.

The initial stirrings of new material emerged last month, when a series of enigmatic posters and QR codes, linked to “The Cockroaches” and believed to be connected to the band, appeared across London.

The Rolling Stones have also reportedly released music and performed gigs under the pseudonym The Cockroaches, with teaser videos hinting at the name shared to their Instagram.

The Cockroaches later released a limited-edition vinyl single, titled Rough And Twisted on April 11, which was reportedly only sold exclusively at independent record stores.

Formed in London in 1962, The Rolling Stones have a long history of chart-topping albums and number one singles, including (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Paint It Black and Start Me Up.

The band has had various members throughout the years, with its current line-up consisting of Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood.

After the long-serving member Charlie Watts passed away in August 2021 at the age of 80, musician Steve Jordan has stepped in as the group’s drummer.

At the time of Watts’ death, the group hailed him as “one of the greatest drummers of his generation” in a touching tribute shared on social media.

The Rolling Stones – who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 – have had 14 UK number one albums and eight number one hits throughout their decades-long career.
