Morning Headlines

It’s moving day at the Masters as the chase for a green jacket intensifies in round three at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy took a giant step towards claiming a second consecutive Masters title after a stunning second round finale at Augusta National on Friday. He’ll play with young American Sam Burns on Saturday.

Northern Irishman McIlroy, who claimed golf’s grand slam with his memorable victory last year, hit six birdies in the last seven holes to storm ahead of the field on 12-under, six ahead of his nearest competitors in the American pair of 2018 champion Patrick Reed and youngster Sam Burns. It is the biggest lead after 36 holes in Masters history.

Englishman Justin Rose, who lost to McIlroy in last year’s play-off, is tied-third on five-under with compatriot Tommy Fleetwood and Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry, with all three enjoying fruitful second rounds before McIlroy sauntered clear of the chasing pack late on.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the third round.
