It’s a fairly standard day of the week when pop sensation Taylor Swift makes headlines – but this time, there’s an unexpected twist.
Swift released her 11th studio album on Friday, titled ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, and it’s fair to say it has broken the internet.
The 14-time Grammy Award winner touches on various topics, including past relationships, fame, and her current relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
But that’s not the only nod to the sporting world. In a surprising turn, Swift name-checks European football giants Real Madrid in her song ‘Wi$h Li$t’.
She sings: ‘They want that freedom, living off the grid.

The reference comes after Swift headlined two sold-out shows at the Santiago Bernabeu last year, as part of her record-breaking Eras Tour.
Real Madrid’s home stadium was the only venue she played in Spain, and she treated the crowds to surprise renditions of ‘Our Song’ with ‘Jump Then Fall’ on guitar and ‘King of My Heart’ on piano.

Around 130,000 fans attended the concerts across two nights – among them, Madrid legend Toni Kroos.
Just hours after the release of ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, Real Madrid took to social media to spotlight their mention on Wi$h Li$t.
The club posted a photo of Aurelien Tchouameni listening to music with the caption ‘NOW PLAYING’, followed by the song title, sharing the post on both X and Instagram.
Fans quickly responded, sharing pictures of Swift in a Real Madrid kit and joking about her potential allegiance to the club.
Atletico de Madrid, never one to miss an opportunity to poke fun at their city rivals, posted a cheeky message spotlighting Marcos Llorente, Pablo Barrios, and Álex Baena – subtly highlighting that Real Madrid had fewer players in the Spanish national squad.
The album’s release comes nearly two months after she appeared on her husband-to-be’s podcast New Heights to announce the project.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in August, sharing pictures from a rose garden
Weeks later, she revealed that he had proposed, sharing photos from a romantic engagement shoot.
‘I knew that he wasn’t crazy the first couple of times that we talked,’ she said.
‘I was just like, he’s truly getting to know me in a way that’s very natural, very pure, very normal. Also, just the way that he could make me laugh so immediately about normal things.’
