The Independent has won two honours at the 2026 Publisher Newsletter Awards, with Inside Football and Independent Money recognised among the UK’s best newsletters.

Inside Football, written by chief football writer Miguel Delaney, was named best sport newsletter, while Independent Money, written by business and money editor Karl Matchett, won best financial newsletter.

The judges praised Inside Football as “an enjoyable and authoritative newsletter which is playing an impressive role in the publisher’s reader revenue strategy.”

Commenting on Independent Money, they added: “This newsletter is clearly connected to and cares about its readership, and has an impressive commercial and growth plan with real thought behind it.”

Inside Football delivers exclusive insight beyond the daily football headlines, with behind-the-scenes reporting from Miguel’s travels across the football world, agenda-setting analysis, weekly reader Q&As and insider knowledge from his extensive network of sources.

Independent Money helps readers make informed financial decisions through expert analysis of savings, mortgages, pensions, investing and the biggest economic stories affecting household finances.

Reacting to the win, Karl said: “It is a real honour for Independent Money to receive this award, especially given the strength of the competition from some genuinely fantastic finance newsletters.

“The most important people to thank are our subscribers – and, by extension, my mum and dad, who were the first people to sign up when the newsletter launched in 2024.”

Organised by Media Voices, the Publisher Newsletter Awards celebrate excellence in newsletter publishing across the media industry. This year’s awards attracted hundreds of entries, with winners selected by a panel of industry judges assessing editorial quality, audience engagement, brand identity and audience growth strategies.

The Independent was also shortlisted in several other categories, with Independent Women, written by regular columnist Victoria Richards and Voices, led by deputy comment editor Paul Clements, both nominated for best individual-led newsletter – news and current affairs.

Meanwhile, Travel Insider was shortlisted for best individual-led newsletter – specialist, and Well Enough, written by fitness coach Harry Bullmore, was recognised in the best health and lifestyle newsletter category.

The recognition reflects the continued growth of The Independent’s newsletter portfolio, which reaches readers across news, sport, business, travel, lifestyle and culture with expert reporting, analysis and exclusive subscriber content.
