An 18-year-old man has died after a jet ski crashed into a pier in Shetland.
A 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital for treatment following the incident, which happened at about 16:00 on Tuesday at Gremista marina, Lerwick.
Police Scotland said the teenager, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene, near the Shetland Catch fish factory.
A force spokesperson said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
No details have been released about the condition of the 17-year-old, who was also travelling on the jet ski.
The RNLI Lerwick lifeboat, a coastguard rescue helicopter and emergency crews responded to the incident.
Emma MacDonald, the leader of Shetland Islands Council, described the community as “shocked and saddened”.
She told Scotland News: “I think I’d like to pay real tribute to our emergency services who obviously had to deal with a really tragic situation.
“And I think everybody in the community would like to do as I’m doing now in passing on all our love and thoughts to all families involved.”
