Team USA figure skater Amber Glenn has hit back at her critics after clinching a gold medal in the team event at the Winter Olympics.
America won the gold medal by a single point over Japan in an incredibly close event – which served as the second gold won by the United States at these games. Glenn took part in the women’s single free skate portion of the event and finished third – contributing a necessary eight points.
Glenn had previously revealed she’d take a break from social media due to hate comments she received for her criticism of President Donald Trump.
But she made a return to Tiktok with photos of herself and skating teammate Alysa Liu – who turned in a strong performance in the women’s single skating portion – wearing their gold medals.
‘They hate to see two woke b*****s winning,’ Glenn posted while soundtracking the slideshow with the 2016 hit song ‘Hoes Mad’ by rapper Famous Dex.
‘If ‘Woke’ means people who use their platforms to advocate for marginalized communities in the country that they are actively representing …… Then yeah sure?’

Glenn identifies as both bisexual and pansexual and is the first American figure skater to compete at the Olympics while being publicly ‘out’.
In a pre-Olympics press conference last week, Glenn shared it had been a ‘hard time’ for her and members of the LGBTQ+ community under the Trump administration. She is one of many Team USA members who have made similar comments.
‘It’s been a hard time for the (LGBTQ) community overall in this administration,’ she said, via USA Today. ‘It isn’t the first time that we’ve had to come together as a community and try and fight for our human rights.
‘And now especially, it’s not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities, and I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn’t have to before, and because of that, it’s made us a lot stronger.’
While Glenn said she wasn’t going to be silent about this issue, the backlash she received was enough to lead to her logging off for a few days to protect her mental health in the midst of competition.

With the team gold in her possession, Glenn will compete in the women’s singles event later
‘When I chose to utilize one of the amazing things about the United States of America (Freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans, I am now receiving a scary amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice WHEN ASKED about how I feel,’ she wrote in a since-expired post on her Instagram story.
‘I did anticipate this but I am disappointed by it. I will be limiting my time on social media for my own wellbeing for now but I will never stop using my voice for what I believe in.’
Glenn is slated to compete in the women’s single skating competition alongside Liu and teammate Isabeau Levito later in the Winter Olympics held in Milan.
