Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone empire continues to dominate the TV landscape, as the Western drama’s latest spin-off, Dutton Ranch, has smashed streaming records to become Paramount+’s biggest original series launch yet.
The new offshoot of the Dutton family — which debuted its first two episodes May 15 — centers on Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s volatile power couple, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, and their relocation to South Texas.
Within the first seven days of the show’s premiere on the platform, the two episodes amassed 12.9 million views, according to Paramount data. The figure easily surpassed the previous record holder, the 2025 premiere of MobLand, which drew 8.8 million views.
Dutton Ranch’s debut on Paramount Network also garnered 2.9 million live-plus-same-day viewers on premiere night across its two-episodes, including 1.9 million for its first episode, per Paramount. This marks the biggest new cable series premiere since 2023.
The series is the fourth installment in Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe. The acclaimed director and creator first launched the franchise in 2018 with Kevin Costner starring as John Dutton, the patriarch of the Montana ranching dynasty. The original series ran for five seasons, concluding in December 2024.

In 2021, he released 1883, a limited series prequel to Yellowstone, featuring Tim McGraw, Sam Elliott and Faith Hill. The following year saw the premiere of the two-season drama 1923, another Yellowstone prequel led by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Earlier this year, came Marshals, a spin-off dedicated to Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), the son of John Dutton.
Meanwhile, The Madison, which premiered in March, was originally intended to be a direct Yellowstone spin-off, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. Paramount+ later reimagined it as a standalone series.
Dutton Ranch currently has an 88 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviews describing it as “sturdy” and “simplified.”
In a recent interview with The Independent, Reilly compared Dutton Ranch to its predecessor, acknowledging, “Even though there are some real key players [from Yellowstone] who are along for the ride, and it’s the same people making it, it is a very different show, and I said goodbye to [Yellowstone] then. I remember driving from Bozeman to the airport, and I just felt really emotional, realizing, ‘Oh, that time in my life has ended.’”

While Dutton Ranch remains in Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe, it was created by Chad Feehman, who was quietly let go after reports claimed he clashed with Reilly and Hauser on set and left Sheridan dissatisfied with the way he ran production.
“We all just made a really difficult season of TV, birthing something together, and we’re so grateful for Chad,” Reilly said, briefly addressing the controversy. Sheridan has since “handed the show over” to the stars.
“It’s almost like a graduation from Taylor, but it’s scary to unmoor from that,” Reilly admitted.
Annette Bening and Ed Harris also feature in Dutton Ranch, which streams Wednesdays on Paramount+.
