Devastated Canadian hockey fans have told singer Tate McRae to dump her rumored boyfriend Jack Hughes after he won gold for Team USA in Sunday’s Winter Olympics hockey final.
The 22-year-old Calgary-born singer–songwriter was seen on more than one date with the NHL star in New York City towards the end of 2025, sparking rumors they were dating.
Now McRae, who sparked fury among her fellow Canadians before the Games had even started, has been urged to ditch Hughes after he scored a dramatic overtime winner to break their hearts.
One fan commented: ‘Tate McRae might have to break up with Jack Hughes if she wants to ever be allowed in her country again’.
Another posted: ‘If Tate McRae was really Canadian, she would break up with Jack Hughes.’

The couple sparked dating rumors in recent months when they were seen together in New York
One replied: ‘I blame Tate McRae for all of this’.
‘Tate McRae if you’re really Canada down you’ll break up with him,’ another demanded.
Other furious Canadians took to social media to show they had blocked the singer in the aftermath of Hughes’ decisive goal in America’s 2-1 win.
Tate, who split from Australian rapper Kid Laroi, 22, last year, became romantically linked to Jack in November 2025 when they enjoyed dinner in Manhattan.
Hughes plays for the New Jersey Devils and is currently signed to an eight-year, $64million contract.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed she was in the stands at a New Jersey Devils hockey game at the Prudential Center on December 21.
Excited fans also shared social media posts about Tate’s presence at the game as she sat in the players’ box with a few friends.
They also noticed that Jack’s brother Quinn Hughes, who plays for the Vancouver Canucks, ‘liked’ an Instagram post about Tate being in attendance.
Tate is an avid NHL fan as she has been seen at several games throughout the years.
She previously dated the Columbus Blue Jackets star Cole Sillinger from late 2021 until early 2023, with internet rumors accusing Sillinger of cheating on the pop star.
He denied those claims in February 2024, when their old relationship had returned to the spotlight after her performance in the NHL All-Star game.
He commented on a post summarizing the accusations against him by saying: ‘All false my guy’.
McRae found herself on the bad side of Canadians at the start of the Winter Olympics as well after she posted an ad supporting Team USA – despite being Canadian.
She shared a video to her Instagram in which she promoted the Games and Canadian accounts expressed their fury on social media after seeing her promoting NBC and Peacock’s coverage.
