  • Peter Flook died following a medical episode in Sydney’s north-west

A Sydney-based entrepreneur and data engineer has been mourned after his sudden death during a suburban soccer match earlier this month.

Peter Flook, 32, died after suffering a medical episode while playing for West Pennant Hills Redbacks FC’s All Age Men’s division-three team on April 18.

Off-duty policeman Anthony Boyd and a teammate, believed to be a doctor, rushed to Flook’s aid as the goalkeeper lay near the penalty box.

Boyd and his teammate then reportedly performed CPR for more than 30 minutes.

Emergency services were called to George Thornton Reserve on View St in West Pennant Hills around 2.30pm, with Flook then taken to hospital.

Sadly, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.

WPH Redbacks said they were overwhelmed by the support following the tragedy.

‘He loved his soccer and enjoyed playing with his mates,’ the amateur soccer club said in an Instagram post.

‘It was all about playing with his mates, playing hard but fair and putting in 100 per cent effort.

‘His family and partner greatly appreciate the support of the club and community.’

A tribute for Flook will take place on Saturday, May 2 at the sporting venue.

Away from soccer, Flook was a principal software engineer at digital banking platform Audax and was on the Technical Steering Committee of the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS).

He was also the founder of test data management tool Data Caterer and began his corporate career at Macquarie Group.

In a tribute on LinkedIn, IT entrepreneur Jean-Georges Perrin labelled Flook a ‘visionary’.

‘He was an entrepreneur, a visionary, a kind person and a great friend,’ the tribute read.

‘I am sending my love and condolences to his girlfriend and family. Rest in peace my friend.’
