A New York brewery is teaming up with the New York Public Library to brew a beer using a recipe recorded by George Washington.

The collaboration between the library and Talea Beer Company is intended to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S.

The new beer will be dubbed the Liberty Lager and will use a recipe that Washington wrote down in his military notebook, which dates back to 1757. Washington was serving as a colonel in the Virginia militia at the time he recorded the recipe.

The library is posting the beer recipe online for historically-minded brewers to use if they want to try to recreate the drink themselves. It calls for ingredients like “a quart of yeast” and “three gallons of molasses,” but, Talea co-founder LeAnn Darland told Fox News Digital that the recipe is fairly straightforward “and not far off from what a first-time home brewer would do.”

For those who prefer their beer already brewed, the beverage will be available around New York City throughout the summer.

Talea said that the “goal was to brew an approachable beer that nods to George Washington’s original recipe with subtle maltiness and a hint of hops.”

The journal is currently housed in the NYPL’s Manuscripts and Archives Division at the Stephen A Schwarzman Building.

The beer is one of several ways the library is celebrating this year’s anniversary. The NYPL said in a post that it will also debut a new, limited-edition library card and will publish a book list related to the anniversary.

Talea isn’t the only brewer bringing back old recipes this year; Samuel Adams, named for the famous revolutionary and brewer, is also reviving its Brewer Patriot Collection this year.

Samuel Adams’ Brewer Patriot Collection was originally released in 2006 and sought to recreate the beers that the U.S. founding fathers likely would have had access to at the time.

Like the Washington beer recipe, Samuel Adams’ collection of beverages is based on original recipes from Colonial America.

The collection is available now and will remain available while supplies last. The beers include the George Washington Porter, James Madison Dark Wheat Ale, the 1790 Hard Root Beer, and the No. 3 Ginger Honey Ale,
