Lessons in Lifestyle

Taco Bell has given its beverage line-up an upgrade with the launch of its Cold Brew and Cold Foams in select restaurants nationwide.

The fast food chain introduced its first coffee drinks Thursday at its Live Más Cafés in select restaurants across Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas and Southern California, according to a press release.

The new Cold Brew — made with a proprietary blend of medium and dark roast Arabica beans — can be ordered on its own or with three Cold Foam flavors: Caramel Dulce Cream, Vanilla Cream and Purple Velvet Cream, which has a purple-hued, horchata-inspired topping.

Customers can choose the 16-ounce Cold Brew for $4.59 or the 20-ounce for $4.99, both offered at this price with or without the Cold Foam addition.

“We’ve spent decades building a bold flavor legacy at Taco Bell, and now we’re bringing that same innovative mindset to coffee at Live Más Café,” Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said in a statement. “As we continue to build the Café experience, Cold Brew and Cold Foams felt like the natural next step – bringing a flavor-forward, premium coffee experience into fans’ everyday routines.”

To celebrate the permanent menu items, Live Más Café is giving customers who order a medium Cold Brew May 30 starting at 7 a.m. a limited-edition bandana until supplies last.

Taco Bell revealed its plans to launch caffeinated drinks during its Live Más Live event in March. Other beverages expected to be released in the U.S. this year are the Salt & Straw Tacolate Chiller and Strawberry Horchata Refresca.

Anticipated dessert options include a Crème Brûlée Crunchwrap Slider, Chocolate Fudge and Caramel Empanadas and a Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada.

Meanwhile, Taco Bell officially launched a new version of its Mexican Pizza in restaurants Thursday. The dish usually features seasoned beef and warm refried beans sandwiched between two crispy flour tortillas, topped with pizza sauce, a cheese blend and diced tomatoes. However, the brand replaced that meat with slow-roasted chicken for the first time to create a fresh take: Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza.

Although it has the same beans and cheese blend as the original pizza, the offering, which costs $6.49, comes with a green chile sauce and is topped with shredded purple cabbage and pico de gallo. The product is served with Jalapeño Citrus Salsa Sauce, made with red jalapeños and guajillo chiles to create a sweet and spicy flavor.
