What makes wedding flowers sustainable?

Sustainable floristry is not about restriction, but about intention. It’s about making choices that reduce environmental impact while still creating something visually beautiful and meaningful.

A more sustainable approach to wedding flowers often includes using seasonal and locally grown blooms, which naturally reduces the carbon footprint associated with imported flowers. It also involves working with what is available at the time of year, rather than forcing specific varieties regardless of seasonality.

Another key element is reducing waste. This can include designing arrangements that are reused throughout the wedding day, as well as moving away from single-use materials such as floral foam. Foam-free floristry is becoming a defining feature of sustainable wedding florists in the UK, as it removes one of the most environmentally damaging materials traditionally used in flower arranging.

Even small design choices can make a difference. Many modern florists are embracing simpler, more flexible styling such as bud vases, jam jars, and reusable glassware. These elements not only reduce waste but also create a more relaxed, natural aesthetic that feels in keeping with contemporary wedding styling.
