Daryl Powell says Wakefield Trinity have their work cut out to repeat last season’s Super League double over Warrington as the two face each other for the first time this campaign on Saturday.

The 60-year-old, who coached Warrington between 2022-23, led his Trinity side to 30-16 away and 40-10 home wins against Wolves last season.

But Powell believes Sam Burgess’s side have made strides since those results and expects a severe test when the two meet in front of the cameras at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“Everybody asks me this around Warrington,” Powell told Radio Leeds. “I just focus on us and don’t worry about what happened last year.

“We have put it behind us because this year is totally different. I thought Warrington played really well in round one, they were really strong and really moved the ball well.”
