Whenever the FIFA World Cup rolls around, be it men’s or women’s the Australian people come together.

They can be seen packing out fan zones across the nation, whether that be Federation Square in Melbourne or Tumbalong Park in Sydney.

The players are always able to capture the nation as they seek to make an impact at each tournament they qualify for.

And this year has been no different, with fans going crazy across Australia as they took on Turkiye and America.

Fans were so willing to support the team at these fan zones that they even managed to force a u-turn on the decision to not screen the games at Fed Square.

But the support for the Socceroos has spread across the globe as fans in Lebanon packed the streets flying Australian flags.

In the stunning video, dozens of cars drive down a narrow road in Lebanon honking their horns.

Some cars have Australian flags attached to them while others have fans hanging out the windows draped in the green and gold.

Traffic comes to a standstill as the honking continues and fans cheer along to a drumbeat, providing the perfect backing track.

Adding to the pure joy of the visuals is the kids running alongside the cars as they join in the celebrations.

From the footage it would seem that Socceroo fever has well and truly taken over part of Lebanon.

The support for Australia from Lebanon could be put down to, in large part, due to the big Lebanese population in the country.

According to the Australian Bureau for Stastistics 2021 census, there were over 87,000 people born in Lebanon who live in Australia.

And the Australian side will be hoping to give those fans in Lebanon even more to cheer about.

After Curacao’s record-breaking draw with Ecuador, Tony Popovic’s side has been given a 90 per cent chance of qualification according to The Athletic.

Their win over Turkiye gave them the perfect start to 2026 World Cup, as they seek qualification to the knockout round for the second consecutive tournament.

But a loss to America, compounded by Paraguay’s win over Turkiye, mean Australia need a point from their final game if they want to qualify.

The main positive from the second round of matches for the green and gold is that Turkiye’s loss means they can finish no lower than third due to FIFA’s head-to-head tiebreaker system.

At this year’s tournament, eight of the third-placed teams will earn a spot in the newly introduced round of 32.

And with Ecuador and Curacao both on one point, it seems even a loss against Paraguay wouldn’t be the end of their World Cup campaign.

Australia will be seeking automatic qualification via second place, due to the massive disparity in potential opponents in the next round.

Finishing second would see them take on the team that finished second in Group G, which is most likely to be one of Egypt, Iran or New Zealand.

However, a third-placed finish would see them take on the likes of Germany – who have already topped their group – Portugal, Spain or France, who are all expected to finish top of their respective groups.
