Storm Dave has been named by the Met Office with yellow weather warnings for wind issued across the UK over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

The forecaster warned the country’s weather is set to turn over the weekend, with gusts of up to 90mph predicted and snow up to 20cm expected to fall in some areas.

It was announced on Thursday that the low-pressure system from the Atlantic has been named Storm Dave and is set to bring “very strong winds” in the north of the UK on Saturday evening into Sunday.

The Met Office said: “After a broadly fine Thursday, the UK’s weather will turn more unsettled as we move into the Easter weekend. The most severe weather will be in the north of the UK on Saturday evening through to the middle of Sunday as an area of low pressure rapidly deepens, bringing very strong winds to much of northern Britain. The low-pressure system has been named Storm Dave.”

A number of yellow severe weather warnings for wind have been issued covering the whole of Scotland, Northern Ireland north Wales and parts of northern England over the weekend. Across all warning areas, gusts of 50-60mph are expected widely, with 60-70mph gusts possible in exposed locations. The strongest gusts will be in Scotland, where there is a small chance of gusts up to 80-90mph for a short time in exposed locations.
