What could have been, eh?
In another world, the game we saw yesterday between England and France could well have been the World Cup final. But no, instead it was the third-place play-off.
And well, in the end, it was a match more than worthy of being the final. It was bonkers but brilliant.
The third-place play-off is usually even more boring than watching paint dry because neither side wants to play it. But yesterday was the complete opposite.
There was no pressure on the teams, and it really showed. They scored 10 goals between them, with England winning 6-4 in the end. I’ve never seen anything like it at the World Cup, truly crazy.
England banged in four in the first half, showing the shackles were off against a pretty strong France side. But then they showed their defensive frailties, with the French managing to pull it back to 4-3.
Then it got even crazier, with the teams trading goals even deep into injury time. Bukayo Saka bagged a hat-trick, while Kylian Mbappe added to his monster tally, making it 10 goals for the tournament.
An insane game.
