Linda Perry, the acclaimed singer and guitarist from 4 Non Blondes, is set to receive a prestigious special international award at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards.
The 61-year-old US musician will be honoured for her profound influence on the UK music industry, an announcement coinciding with an Amazon Music mini-documentary, Anatomy Of An Earworm, which delves into the creation of her hit song “Beautiful”, famously recorded by Christina Aguilera.
Expressing her gratitude, Perry stated: “It’s an honour to be recognised for my song-writing contributions at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards. So many incredible artists have been celebrated and I am humbled to be standing alongside them.”
The Massachusetts-born star first rose to prominence as the driving force behind alternative rock band 4 Non Blondes, penning their UK top 10 smash “What’s Up?”, alongside tracks like “Spaceman”, “Dear Mr President” and “Pleasantly Blue”.
Beyond her band, Perry has forged a remarkable career as a songwriter for a constellation of pop icons, including Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Adele, and Ariana Grande. Her notable compositions for other artists include P!nk’s “Get The Party Started” and Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?”
Tom Gray, chairman of The Ivors Academy, lauded Perry’s distinctive style, remarking: “With defiance, vulnerability and honesty, Linda’s song-writing is instantly recognisable. She has continuously captured both hearts and the airwaves. You just know her songs will endure and continue to resonate.”
Roberto Neri, chief executive of The Ivors Academy, added: “Linda Perry’s song-writing continues to have a profound impact on global popular culture. We are proud to honour her with the special international award at The Ivors, celebrating her incredible music and authentic craft.”
In other news, Perry recently announced her first solo album in 25 years, Let It Die Here, slated for release on 8 May. Her upcoming accolade follows Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalia being named international songwriter of the year at the prestigious awards ceremony. The 71st Ivor Novello Awards will take place at Grosvenor House in London on 21 May, where the winners across the event’s main categories will be unveiled.
