The Small Woodland Grant Scheme is open for applications, offering funding to landowners for creating woodlands. It supports biodiversity, carbon capture, and better air, soil and water quality while encouraging the integration of woodlands into existing farms and other businesses.
The scheme is run by Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA) to promote sustainable land use.
What the scheme offers
The scheme provides funding of up to £6,425 per hectare for establishment costs, along with annual payments over 10 years. Additional support is available for new stock fencing to protect newly planted woodlands from livestock.
Eligibility criteria
Grants are available to a wide range of landowners, including

- landowners and estate owners
- charitable organisations
- local councils (establishment grant only)
