Shropshire Council has celebrated the important role of co-production, participation, engagement and collaboration in shaping better, more inclusive services across the county.
The council’s recent Co-production Celebration brought together people with lived experience, carers, staff, partners and community organisations to recognise the progress made over the past year and look ahead to future work.
Co-production means people who use services, carers, families, communities and professionals working together so that services reflect real experiences and have impact.

The celebration showcased a range of co-produced work, including projects linked to the Autism Strategy, Enable, domestic abuse, supported living, adult social care, care and wellbeing, quality monitoring and Shropshire Youth Advisors. Perthyn also shared its co-production journey, including the training it delivers and the recruitment process it has developed with people who have lived experience and live in its homes.
Leader of Shropshire Council, Heather Kidd, said:
“This celebration was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the difference coproduction is already making across Shropshire. The best services are shaped with people, not simply designed for them.
“Thank you to everyone who took part, especially people with lived experience who shared their time, ideas and insight so generously. Their involvement is helping us build more responsive and inclusive services.”
Sophie Davies, Co-production Lead at Shropshire Council, added:
“There was a real buzz in the room, with a welcoming, friendly and inclusive atmosphere. We did not always keep to time and occasionally moved away from the agenda, but that is part of co-production — it takes time, flexibility and can sometimes be messy!
“I would like to give a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone with lived experience, as well as the staff, providers and organisations who helped plan, present and attend the event. The event couldn’t have happened without their help; it made it such a positive and enjoyable occasion.”
