Shropshire Council has been awarded more than £650,000 from Active Travel England as part of a nationwide effort to promote active travel and improve infrastructure for walking and cycling across England.
The funding- which totals £659,392 – will be used to support a variety of projects aimed at making Shropshire a safer and more accessible place for pedestrians and cyclists, with further details to be announced once known.
These initiatives will focus on creating new pathways, enhancing existing routes, and implementing safety measures to encourage more residents to choose active travel over driving wherever possible.
Ian Nellins, deputy Leader of Shropshire Council and Cabinet member with responsibility for active travel, said:
“I welcome the award of this funding and we’re very grateful to Active Travel England for this generous support.
“This funding will enable us to make significant improvements to our active travel infrastructure, making Shropshire a healthier and more sustainable place to live. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have on our communities.”
