The world’s finest nature images will be on display at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition in Shrewsbury.

The world-renowned exhibition, now in its sixty-first year and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, will open at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery on 25 April and run until 20 June and feature some of the most exceptional nature photography taken today from across the globe.

The exhibition shines a light on powerful and fascinating images that capture hidden animal behaviour, spectacular species and the breathtaking diversity of the natural world. Using photography’s unique emotive power to engage and inspire audiences, the images share stories and species from around the world, encouraging a future of advocating for the planet.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most prestigious photography event of its kind. Launched in 1965, today the competition receives entries from 113 countries and territories all over the world, highlighting its enduring appeal. This year’s award-winning images will embark on an international tour that will allow them to be seen by well over a million people.

This year’s competition attracted over 60,000 entries from photographers of all ages and experience levels. During an intense week at the Natural History Museum in London, entries were judged anonymously on their creativity, originality, and technical excellence by an international panel of industry experts.

Jeremy Blandford, Shropshire Council’s Deputy Portfolio Holder for Housing and Leisure said:

“Welcoming the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition to Shrewsbury is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Shropshire to engage with the wonders of the natural world. Not only does it inspire local residents and visitors alike, but it also bolsters our local economy by attracting tourism and raising the profile of our museum as a leading cultural destination in the region.”

During the exhibition, the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery will host a wide range of inspiring wildlife-themed activities. Young guests can enjoy an imaginative children’s trail, which encourages them to explore the galleries while searching for hidden ‘wild animals’.  Young people can also showcase their creativity and passion for wildlife in the museum’s very own Wildlife Photography competition and exhibition and for visitors looking to take home a reminder of their visit, the museum shop will feature an assortment of unique animal-inspired products.

The exhibition will be open Tuesday- Saturday, (closed Sundays and Mondays) 10am-4pm. Admission is £7 per adults with concessions for seniors, students and Friends of the Museum. Tickets can be purchased from the shop on arrival.
