Sex and the City alum Jason Lewis has returned to social media after spending the last three years working on a secret project.
The 54-year-old actor — best known for playing Jerry “Smith” Jerrod, the hunky young boyfriend of Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones in the final season of the seminal romance drama and its two spin-off films — broke his years-long silence Thursday in an Instagram video, captioned: “After three years, it was time.”
Walking along an unidentified beach, Lewis began the video: “Three years ago, I went quiet. Not because I had nothing to say, but because I had something to do.
“The kind of creative work that doesn’t leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that.”
While he remained tight-lipped about the project, he described it as “the kind of work that needs to find its people.”
“I’m still in it,” Lewis added. “And I’m far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I’ve been doing. More to come.”
Many fans, followers and fellow celebrities, including Selma Blair, celebrated his return in the comment section.
“Good to see you,” Blair wrote, alongside a blue heart emoji.
“Whatever your working on, I’m here for it!! Sending positivity and light,” another person added.
Others responded with Sex and the City GIFs of Samantha.
It has been nearly a decade since Lewis last appeared on-screen in the final season of NBC’s Midnight, Texas drama series in 2018.
In 2020, he voiced Lance in the independent animated film Palm Swings. According to IMDb, his next project, currently in post-production, is a film titled Restaveks, directed by Ramses Jimenez. It’s unclear if the forthcoming movie is the project Lewis is referring to in his Instagram video.

Lewis joined Sex and the City in the second episode of the sixth and final season. Smith, an aspiring actor, became Samantha’s longest relationship, despite her initial hesitance to date a younger man. The pair remained together through the series finale and its 2008 spin-off film, Sex and the City, before breaking up in the second spin-off film, Sex and the City 2 (2010).
In the years between the series finale and the two films, Lewis took on minor roles in a variety of TV shows, including Charmed, How I Met Your Mother, House, CSI and Brothers & Sisters. He later appeared in a 2012 episode of the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful and the one-season Indian drama series Beauty and the Baker.
