Drivers are facing delays on the M6 in Cheshire after soil and sewage has been spilled from a heavy goods vehicle.
The disruption on the northbound section of the motorway has led to the closure of two lanes between junction 19 for Knutsford and junction 20 for the Lymm Interchange, National Highways said.
The link road from the M6 junction 20 northbound to the M56 junction nine westbound and the A50 is closed.
There are currently delays of about 90 minutes, with traffic backed up by about 12 miles on the approach.
A specialist clean-up team is being sent to clear the spill, which is near Sworton Heath and Lymm.
It has also led to the closure of the link road from the M6 Northbound to the M56 J9 westbound near Stretton.
