- Rumours are swirling that the 44-year-old will make shock return to the sport
Serena Williams could be set to make an incredible return to the Australian Open in 2027 as speculation rises that the 44-year-old is set to make a tennis comeback.
An announcement could be made by the 23-time major champion at next week’s Super Bowl.
Williams last played a professional tennis match at the 2022 US Open with most tennis fans assuming she had retired from the sport.
The mother-of-two recently began sparking interest when she registered to have her name be part on the official drug-testing pool list.
At the time, she attempted to shut down the speculation, posting on social media platform X: ‘Omg y’all I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy’.
However, she recently appeared on the US Today Show where the 23-time Grand Slam winner refused to shut down rumours of her return.

‘I don’t know, I’m just going to see what happens. I’m just having fun and enjoying my life right now,’ she said, stumbling over her words.
But those who follow tennis will be watching next weekend’s half-time show closely, to see if Williams reveals any information or provides any hints in a paid-for television advertisement.
The tennis legend is part a promotional push for the telehealth company Ro, and will be spotted at the popular half-time show.
Williams has a personal connection to the company, as her husband Alexis Ohanian is an investor.
Ro will receive more global exposure having purchased a TV promo slot for Super Bowl LX.
The most popular US sporting event is set to see see the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots in Santa Clara.
Reports say the advertisement is 30 seconds in run time, and costs $11.8million. A teaser trailer posted on Instagram shows William wearing a blue tennis skirt.
She is the seen sticking an injection in her biceps, and dancing to a tune whilst endorsing the impact Ro’s medication has on her fitness. Fans have since begun expressing their excitement to the potential news.
