Sellafield Ltd has been named England’s second highest-ranked apprenticeship employer in the HIGHERiN Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2026 ranking, delivered in partnership with the UK Government.

The scheme recognises employers that provide high-quality apprenticeship programmes and support apprentices to succeed.

The rankings are based on apprentice reviews and employer performance. They look at things such as programme completion rates, the number of apprenticeship opportunities available, diversity and inclusion, and feedback from apprentices.

The result reflects Sellafield and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s long-term investment in early careers and skills. It also recognises the role their apprentices play in supporting the UK’s nuclear sector and the nation’s long-term economic growth.

Michelle Lambon-Wilks, Head of Education, Skills and Social Mobility at Sellafield Ltd said

We are incredibly proud to be recognised as England’s second highest ranked apprenticeship employer in the HIGHERiN Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2026.

This award recognises the work that goes into creating high-quality apprenticeship opportunities.
This achievement belongs to our apprentices, our colleagues, our training providers and everyone who helps people learn and grow.

Together, they help create rewarding careers and build the skills we need for the future.

The ranking follows a strong year for Sellafield’s early careers programmes.

Sellafield was recognised in all 3 HIGHERiN employer rankings

  • 2nd in the Top Apprenticeship Employers ranking
  • 50th in the Top Graduate Employers ranking
  • 87th in the Top Undergraduate Employers ranking

The results show the range of opportunities available at Sellafield, from apprenticeships through to graduate programmes.

Nic Westcott, chief people officer at Sellafield Ltd said

Being named England’s second highest-ranked apprenticeship employer is a fantastic achievement.

Our apprentices are an important part of our workforce. They bring new ideas, learn valuable skills and help us deliver our mission every day.

This recognition reflects the hard work of our apprentices, colleagues and training partners.

Sophie Conway, business admin apprentice, Sellafield Ltd

Sophia Conway, a second year business admin apprentice said

My apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, develop new skills and contribute to meaningful work.

It’s great to see Sellafield recognised nationally for the support and opportunities it provides to apprentices, and I’m proud to be part of that success.

As part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Group, Sellafield is one of the UK’s largest apprenticeship employers. Its programmes cover engineering, project management, business services, digital, science and operations.
