Footage has emerged of Adelaide Crows defender Josh Worrell appearing to hit a pedestrian with his car after he was charged over the incident.

The Crows player was driving to training about 8.30am last Friday when the accident occurred.

The footage seems to show Worrell striking a man with his vehicle as he walks across Port Road in the Adelaide suburb of Woodville.

Worrell then pulls over, exits his vehicle and comes to the man’s aid.

The footy star has been charged with aggravated driving without due care and failing to present to police within 90 minutes of the incident.

Police laid the charges against Worrell on Wednesday, after Crows coach Matthew Nicks praised his contributions at the club.

In an unusual twist, South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, who is an Adelaide Crows board member, said he has not been briefed on the incident.

‘In managing that conflict of interest there are strict protocols in place, so any circumstances relating to the Adelaide Football Club, there are very careful considerations as to whether I’m briefed or not,’ Stevens said.

‘It’s been a pretty challenging few days for Josh, he’s working through after his accident,’ Nicks said on Tuesday.

‘But we’re just doing whatever we can to support him through that.’

Worrell’s charges carry a maximum penalty of imprisonment if he is found guilty.

‘Following investigations, the 25-year-old driver was reported for aggravated driving without due care and failing to present to police within 90 minutes after a collision which resulted in injury,’ South Australian Police said in a statement.

‘He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.’
