A young footy fan has stolen the show at the AFL match between the Gold Coast Suns and Greater Western Sydney Giants by sprinting out of the stadium with the match ball.

The supporter has gone viral on social media after the broadcast of the match captured the moment he stunned the crowd at People First Stadium on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

The incident happened when Giants star Aaron Cadman kicked a goal early in the match.

After the ball sailed through the posts, the young fan took it once it rebounded off another spectator’s hands and wasted no time leaving the venue.

He evaded fans trying to take the footy from him before running out the back of the ground and bolting into the street, pursued by a group of other youngsters.

The AFL has posted vision of the funny moment with the caption, ‘HE’S OUTTA THERE. Not sure we’ll see this Sherrin again at People First Stadium!’

Commentator and Brisbane Lions legend Alastair Lynch joked that the fan had made a habit of making off with Sherrins during matches, saying, ‘He’s got half a dozen [footballs] out there, he takes off each time, this little bugger.’

Fans couldn’t hide their glee at the footage on social media, with many praising the youngster for his skills.

‘Sign the kid, he read the pack nicely,’ one commenter wrote.

‘Collingwood please recruit this kid, we need more speed haha,’ said another.

‘Love it! Go young fella,’ a third fan added.

The incident came as the Suns’ marquee recruits Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Christian Petracca powered the home side to a drought-breaking 20-point win over GWS.

Having lost 15 of their last 16 matches against the Giants, the team from the Gold Coast snapped a 12-year losing run.

Gold Coast briefly conceded the lead late in the second quarter, but were otherwise untroubled in securing the 83-63 win.
