NRL star Luke Metcalf has jokingly been accused of giving away game plans after a bizarre video of him was posted to social media moments after he woke from an operation.
The New Zealand Warriors halfback was recorded by wife Brodie looking drowsy and very out of sorts after surgery to repair his knee.
He proceeded to try and explain tactics by saying: ‘Right strip, left post, snap, nine twists nice and tight, come back.’
‘Like, Jacko Ford (Jackson Ford) said, seven-block wide compass,’ Metcalf told his wife, who asked: ‘Is that all?’
Metcalf wasn’t done and tried to explain how his New Zealand Warriors teammates should be playing.
‘Wayde (Egan), make sure you’re still sinking defenders in,’ he said.

Metcalf was giving nonsensical advice to his teammates about how to play the game as he recovered from the operation
‘Chanel (Harris-Tavita) make sure you, take a line force… left-foot step.
‘Capes (Luke Capewell), kick-chase. He’s playing centre.’
Footy fans online were quick to poke fun at Metcalf’s advice to his teammates.
‘Bro giving away the game plans,’ one person said.
‘Hahaha clubs be taking notes,’ another wrote.
Metcalf’s wife wrote on the post: ‘8 months of hard work. Always proud of you egg head.’
She was referring to her husband’s long road back from the ACL injury he suffered in a Round 17 clash against the Broncos, which ended his 2025 season.
It also effectively ended the Warriors’ season as they struggled to maintain their form without Metcalf, who was leading the Dally M count when he got injured.

Luke says Brodie has made sacrifices to pursue his career in the NRL
The 26-year-old recently spoke about his comeback from the major injury, saying he used his time on the sidelines to learn about halfback play from Warriors legend Stacey Jones.
‘It was obviously tough to take when it happened, but I probably try to… find a positive out of everything,’ Metcalf said.
‘I felt like I did a bit of work, in terms of studying the game (and) looking probably more in depth at who we’d (play) in that week.
‘I went back through and watched some of our games last year and had a look at where we can improve and stuff like that.’
Metcalf has endured a horror run with injuries of late.
Before he did his ACL, he broke his leg in Round 4 of the 2024 season, which restricted him to just seven games.
When the couple got married last year, Metcalf said of his wife: ‘It’s crazy to think we’re married now, with a baby and living in another country. I love how we’ve grown together, and I appreciate everything Brodie does and has sacrificed so I can chase my dreams.’
