Businesses invited to join Canada dual-use technology incubator

Innovate UK is inviting applications from small and medium-sized UK businesses to join a 12-month Global Incubator Programme (GIP) focused on seabed to space dual-use technologies. The programme will support up to eight companies to explore opportunities in the Canadian market. It is delivered in partnership with COVE, a global innovation hub based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

What the programme offers

Successful applicants will receive tailored business support and funded access to the Canadian innovation ecosystem. This includes

  • a structured 12-month incubation programme
  • two in-market visits to Canada (October 2026 and June 2027)
  • ongoing support from an Innovate UK Business Growth Specialist
  • opportunities to connect with industry, investors, and defence end users
  • a chance to showcase solutions at a COVE demo day and attend the DEFSEC exhibition

Innovate UK will cover group travel, accommodation, and transfers for one company representative. This is a fully funded support package, not a cash grant.

Who should apply

The programme is open to UK-based SMEs that

  • have fewer than 250 employees
  • are innovation-led and looking to grow internationally
  • develop dual-use technologies across defence, security, or marine sectors
  • have some existing traction in the UK market
  • can commit senior-level participation throughout the programme

Applications from under-represented groups are encouraged.

Technology focus areas

Innovate UK is particularly interested in companies working in

  • autonomous marine vessels and ocean monitoring
  • AI-enabled sensing, robotics, and advanced detection systems
  • collaborative or autonomous aviation systems
  • hybrid electric or conventional take-off and landing aircraft
  • counter-unmanned aerial systems (counter-UAS)
  • infrastructure protection, including offshore and maritime environments

The deadline for applications is midday, Friday 24 July 2026.

Apply online via Innovate UK Business Connect.
