Get your food business summer-ready with free tools from the FSA

The Food Standard Agency’s (FSA) Safer Food Means Better Business Campaign aims to support food businesses with easy-to-access and free-to-use resources to help them stay on top of food hygiene and safety practices.

Summer is coming, and for food businesses across Northern Ireland that means new menus, seasonal staff, outdoor trading and one of the busiest periods of the year. In preparation, it is important to meet your food safety requirements now.

This spring, take a few minutes to

  • Do the free online training – the FSA’s free food safety e-learning is ideal for new and returning staff ahead of the summer rush, including dedicated allergen training.
  • Download the Safe Catering guide – a practical, no-fuss guide to food safety management procedures, checklists and record-keeping, so you know your business is covered.
  • Sign up for food alerts and recalls – be the first to know when a product is recalled or withdrawn, so you can act fast and protect your customers.
  • Check the latest allergen guidance – the FSA has free tools and step-by-step guidance to help you provide written allergen information correctly. Particularly worth revisiting if you’re rolling out a new summer menu.
  • Check guidance on additives and E numbers – the FSA has issued guidance on glycerol levels in slushie-style drinks, with specific recommendations regarding children under 10. If you serve these products, make sure your team is up to date.

Find out more about the FSA’s support for food businesses.
