Roy Keane has taken a cheap shot at Michael Carrick’s wife, Lisa Roughead, reigniting a dormant feud.
The Man United legend, 54, speaking in his role as a pundit, accused Lisa of having ‘a big mouth’ and made a tongue-in-cheek remark about her giving Man United a team talk now her husband is in charge.
‘His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn’t do well], cause she’s got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She’s probably doing the team talk,’ Keane said on the Stick to Football podcast.
Keane’s jibe has reopened old wounds after his brief spat with Lisa back in 2014.
Man United had lost 2-0 against Olympiacos and Carrick was in the side that day, while Keane was a pundit on TV covering the match.
Carrick fronted up and gave an interview afterwards, to which Keane responded in the studio afterwards: ‘That interview was just like the performance, flat. He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview.’

Carrick has been with wife Lisa for 29 years and they were childhood sweethearts
Lisa was infuriated and took to Twitter, now X, writing: ‘Roy Keane what a ****, says anything to provoke a reaction.’
She then hastily deleted her post and regretfully added: ‘Deleted my tweet… Emotions got the better of me.’
Keane had been speaking about the predictability of the messages to players delivered by new bosses and shared an anecdote from his time in charge of Sunderland when he effectively chose to ignore his group for the first two days.
‘At Sunderland I didn’t speak to the players for about two days when I went in. Just watched training. Keep them all guessing,’ he said.
‘You don’t have to do a big speech, that’s all very predictable. I thought I’d give them a couple of days just to chill out.’
It was after this that he dived into the somewhat unnatural segue of bringing up Carrick’s wife.
Carrick and Lisa began dating when they were at school and tied the knot in 2007. They have two children together – Louie and Jacey, who is in the United academy.

The 44-year-old tends to avoid the limelight and helps run the Michael Carrick Foundation to support disadvantaged children. She previously had her own Pilates business.
She has been by Carrick’s side for 29 years and will support him once more as he takes the highly-pressurised job at Old Trafford.
The former midfielder will be in the hotseat until the end of the season and bid to secure United qualification into the Champions League.
