Roy Keane left Jamie Carragher in stitches with his response to the prospect of Erling Haaland’s father making an appearance on Stick to Football.

Keane and Alf-Inge Haaland have been embroiled in a long-standing feud dating back to their days as rival midfielders for Manchester United and Manchester City.

It began in 1997 when the Norwegian accused the United skipper of faking a knee injury when, in reality, Keane had ruptured his ACL in the Manchester derby.

It was an accusation which the fierce Irishman never forgot and, four years later, he got revenge by clattering Haaland with a reckless knee-high tackle – a challenge for which Keane was given marching orders.

Only a couple of weeks ago Haaland’s son, Man City forward Erling, referenced the long-standing dispute by joking that he’d ‘need to bring his father’ for an appearance on Stick to Football while talking to Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

Keane was asked about those comments during this week’s episode of The Overlap podcast – and his answer didn’t disappoint.

Roy Keane has reignited his long-standing feud with Erling Haaland’s father Alf-Inge (pictured in 2001 when Keane clattered Haaland during the Manchester derby)

After Carragher mentioned Haaland and his father coming on the show, Keane quipped: ‘Which Haaland? Yeah, bring him in. Bring them all in. All his family – no problem. We’ll be ready.’

As his co-hosts burst into laughter, Ian Wright added: ‘Bring your friends! Bring your dinner!’

Elsewhere on the show, the hosts debated Ruben Amorim’s treatment of United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who has fallen badly out of favour this term.

The Englishman, who shot to stardom as just an 18-year-old at Old Trafford, is yet to start a single Premier League game after falling behind Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and sometimes even Manuel Ugarte in the midfield pecking order.

Keane however urged Mainoo to prove Amorim wrong and earn his place in the eleven by taking his chance off the bench.

‘Are you telling me that he can’t sit there for another six months? He might think the manager’s on his way out in the summer,’ he speculated. ‘He’s 20 years of age, what’s wrong with sitting and learning your trade? And even if he’s not getting a chance, we’ve all had to do it.

‘Sometimes a manager is on your case and what you have to do is prove them wrong. Jamie (Carragher) made a point that he never felt like a regular at Liverpool, I never felt like that at United.

‘Every day is your chance to prove yourself to the manager and when the manager is picking his team, (he thinks) ‘he has to play’. He’s got to get that in his mindset.’

Mainoo’s older brother and ex Love Island star Jordan Mainoo-Homes sparked controversy at United’s game against Bournemouth on Monday by wearing a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ T-shirt in the stands.

It was a fashion choice which went viral, but one which Keane was far from a fan of.

‘When he’s got his idiot of his brother doing all that stuff – we shouldn’t even be giving his brother the time of day,’ he added. ‘Because sometimes you’re just surrounded by idiots, especially in families.

‘(But) you come in after the match, and your brother did that… if my brother ever did that, you would be looking at him going, “what are you doing?” You would, and do you know what – do you think his brother’s done that without asking him? He’s under contract, probably been paid a decent wage…’

United are next in action against Aston Villa in Birmingham on Sunday afternoon.
