Seventeen-year-old Brit Sky Brown is once again skateboarding world champion, having first claimed the title when she was 14.

Brown celebrated her win after the competition in Brazil alongside her father, former skateboarder Stuart Brown. She said after the victory: ‘This feels huge and I’m so thankful. There are bigger things and I just pray for peace for the world.

‘The level is crazy. I had to put a lot down to get here, but I am definitely bummed that we couldn’t fully do a final,’ Brown told World Skate after her win.

‘But to win, to be a world champ on International Women’s Day means a lot.’

The decision was made to crown Brown champion when rain continued to fall at the venue, with competition finalists having completed two of four planned runs.

Results from the first two runs stood, and Brown celebrated as officials announced the decision.

The teenager dominated throughout, and she was crowned champion by nearly four points, picking up a final score of 88.16. Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa took silver with a score of 84.36, and American Minna Stess came third with 83.90.

It’s not the first time she has tasted success, however. Aged 14, she won the World Championship in the United Arab Emirates with a score of 90.83 from three runs, while she also won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

There, aged just 13, she became Team GB’s youngest-ever medal winner.

She also claimed bronze in 2024 in Paris, competing just a week after she had dislocated her shoulder. Brown is now ranked seventh in the world.

Brown boasts an impressive social media presence, with 2.2million followers on TikTok, 1.3m on Instagram and more than 330,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Outside her sport, she’s won Dancing with the Stars: Juniors on US television, has released a music single and tried to qualify for the Olympics in a second sport, surfing.

But despite her riches and fame, there is one person who keeps Sky down to earth – her father Stuart, who travels everywhere with her.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in March 2024, Sky said: ‘I am really thankful for everything I get, doing the sports I love. My family keeps me grounded.

‘Having my Dad everywhere with me, he chills me out. But having good people around me is really important.’
