- The world No 2 is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Houston Open on Sunday
- McIlroy has claimed two PGA Tour titles ahead of the first major of the season
- Northern Irishman will make his latest bid to win the career slam in a fortnight
Rory McIlroy has revealed he is carrying a minor elbow issue less than a fortnight before The Masters.
The world No 2 finished fifth behind Min Woo Lee at the Houston Open on Sunday, maintaining the strong form that has already seen him win twice on the PGA Tour this season.
But after signing off from his final warm-up event with a 64, McIlroy admitted he will need treatment ahead of his latest bid to complete the career grand slam.
‘My right elbow has been bothering me a little bit so I’ll maybe just get some treatment on that and make sure that is OK going into Augusta,’ he said.
The Northern Irishman’s game is in promising shape for the season’s first major, though he is evidently still not entirely comfortable with his driver.
Having changed to a new model at Bay Hill in early March and then abandoned the switch at Sawgrass, where his game off the tee was inconsistent, McIlroy was still wrestling for the right configuration in Houston.

He said: ‘I’ve got my coach Michael Bannon coming in on Monday, we’ll do some work and make sure everything is in good shape for a week’s time.
‘The last three days were really good. I went to the range and took the loft off a little bit and definitely drove the ball better on Sunday. That was a positive, as was seeing some putts go in.
‘As I went on during the week I got better and better, as the scores suggest. It was a good week. Still stuff to work on but overall a solid week, and now have another week to get ready and fine-tune my game heading to Augusta.
I still feel like I’ve got some stuff to work on. I still don’t think like my game is absolutely 100 per cent under the control I would want but it’s nice to have a week to work on some things.’
