The local council spotted Ronnie Wood’s bright pink door and they want it painted black.

The Rolling Stones rocker has reportedly been ordered by Westminster Council to paint the front door of his home in Maida Vale, north-west London, a “neutral tone”, such as black.

The council has rejected retrospective planning permission for a number of listed homes in the area because “incongruous” colours are believed to “harm the appearance and special architectural interest of their properties”.

A source close to Wood told the Daily Mail: “The council does not like your door being painted a different colour. They like them black.”

Wood, 79, painted his front door pink years ago, after moving into the £7m property with his wife, Sally Humphreys, and their twin daughters.

While he kept the front gate painted black, someone reportedly took a photo of the door and said he couldn’t keep it in the bright pink colour.

After Wood retrospectively applied for council approval, he was reportedly told to paint it black.

One of the guitarist’s neighbours, Bafta-winning film continuity supervisor Angela Allen, told the publication that she had been one of the first residents on their street to be told to repaint their door.

Allen was apparently threatened with a £30,000 fine if she did not repaint her door from her chosen colour, blue, half a decade after she redecorated it.

“I’m 97, but I still argue with the council,” Allen, who worked on classic films including The African Queen and The Third Man. “A neighbour had a shocking pink door and a lady further down had blue because she liked our blue.

“I asked the council about the colour before I painted it five years ago, so it’s taken five years for them to get back.”

A council spokesperson told The Independent: “These properties form part of a distinctive group of listed buildings within a conservation area, and we have advised residents that changes affecting their historic character may require consent.

“Residents are able to submit an application for the works to be formally considered.”

Wood is currently preparing for the release of the Stones’ 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, as well as a headline solo tour featuring songs from his back catalogue and new material.

The legendary guitarist said in a statement that he was looking forward to “kickin’ ass” at the shows, including a gig at the Kentish Town Forum in London on 21 August.

This week, his bandmate Mick Jagger shared an update on the prospect of another Stones tour in support of their new music.
