Robin van Persie and his under-fire Feyenoord players were subjected to chants of ‘shame on you’, during a pitiful 0-0 against relegation strugglers Volendam on Sunday.
The former Manchester United, Arsenal and Netherlands striker has found his job under the microscope at the Rotterdam club and their result confirmed PSV as Eredivisie champions.
Even though Feyenoord remain second in the Dutch top flight, they are 17 points away from their rivals.
Performances have been underwhelming under RVP and Sunday’s effort against Volendam, who are 14th, sparked fury in the stands.
The away end chanted ‘shame on you’ at full time and midfielder Luciano Valente told ESPN: ‘We’ve been hearing that for a while. We are second, with not exactly great play.
‘That emotion is logical and clear, but we can’t do much with it. It’s not that they are wrong. We have to move on and have only one objective: Champions League football.’

They style of football has been heavily criticised but Valente added: ‘You go all out. It’s not like you think we’re going to play defensively; we don’t want that either.
‘You can’t just walk forward like a bunch of blind men. It simply wasn’t enough.’
Last month, fans were heard chanting: ‘Robin, get lost’.
When asked about it, he told ESPN: ‘I’ve heard it too, yes, but I’ve developed a thick skin over the years.
‘This is part of it. It doesn’t get through, no. I make every decision for Feyenoord. I understand the emotions, but the meaning of the word supporter is that you support your club through thick and thin. Some supporters choose to express it that way.’
Former Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling moved to the club in January and started the game on Sunday but has struggled to get up to speed at his new home.
He has one assist and is yet to score for the club in six games and found himself subbed off in his latest showing.
After the stalemate, RVP took aim at the referee Allard Lindhout, saying: ‘I didn’t get the feeling that we really had him on our side today, let me put it that way.’
And when VAR was mentioned at his post-match press conference he said: ‘They were there today, weren’t they?

‘Really? Oh, okay. Good to know they were there.’
‘I think it is especially unfair towards Ayase Ueda (striker). He is being played very hard. That is allowed; that is simply part of football within the lines.
‘Ayase is a very honest player; he doesn’t just go down. He truly never gets anything, nothing. No penalty, no free kick. Nothing, ever. It is truly unbelievable. He deserves a bit more protection in that regard, I think.’
