Elliot Anderson’s record-breaking transfer to Manchester City is likely to be announced officially this week – potentially giving Nottingham Forest a boost in the transfer market.

City have agreed a deal with Forest worth about £116million – the highest fee in history for a British player – for the England midfielder, who is expected to play against DR Congo in the World Cup round of 32 clash on Wednesday.

The transfer is thought to have been agreed some days ago but if it is announced on or after July 1, that could mean it being registered in the 2026-27 accounting period.

Daily Mail Sport understands Forest have no concerns about complying with Premier League spending rules for the 2025-26 period and if the Anderson fee is booked in the next accounting year, it will put them in a strong position for that one, too.

Elliot Anderson is set to play in England’s last-32 clash with DR Congo in Atlanta

Forest are looking to make a minimum of three or four signings, and at least one of those will be a central midfielder. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is among those Forest are following, along with Lucas Bergvall of Tottenham and Jack Hinshelwood, the Brighton player Forest identified last winter.

Having sold Anderson, Forest are confident of hanging on to other key players like Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Murillo. Murillo signed a new deal at the end of last season, while Gibbs-White is one year into a three-year deal that made him the highest-paid player in Forest’s history.

Tottenham thought they had activated a £60million release clause in Gibbs-White’s deal last summer but the 26-year-old stayed and Forest want to build their 2026-27 team around him.
