Aston Villa have been left fuming after Morgan Rogers controversially had a goal ruled out during their 2-0 defeat against Manchester United.
The Red Devils goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to collect the ball, allowing Rogers to pounce on the loose ball and calmly tap it into the net.
However, the referee had already blown the whistle before the Villa midfielder scored, so the goal was disallowed.
Explaining the decision, the Premier League wrote: The referee’s call was a free kick to Manchester United with Bayindir deemed to be in control of the ball before Rogers gained possession.
‘The whistle was blown by the referee before the ball entered the goal, therefore the incident was not reviewable by the VAR.’
