Red Bull has unequivocally dismissed reports suggesting that Jürgen Klopp’s position as the drinks giant’s head of global soccer is under threat, branding such claims as “nonsense”.

The former Liverpool manager, who assumed the high-profile role in January 2025, oversees Red Bull’s extensive network of clubs, including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls.

The speculation originated from the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten on Wednesday, which reported that Klopp’s future was uncertain due to a perceived lack of development across the clubs since his appointment.

However, Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s CEO of corporate projects and investments, issued a robust denial on Thursday.

“This is total nonsense and completely unfounded. On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with Jürgen Klopp’s work,” Mintzlaff stated.

He further emphasised Klopp’s active involvement, noting he is “in constant contact” with coaches and sporting directors throughout the Red Bull network.

“We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. That’s where we are putting our full focus and our energy.”

When Klopp’s Red Bull role was announced in 2024, he indicated he did not foresee a return to coaching “for the time being,” viewing his position primarily as an adviser to the various Red Bull-backed clubs around the world.

While some of the clubs were already facing difficulties upon his arrival, a partial turnaround has been observed.

RB Leipzig, for instance, missed out on European qualification entirely after finishing seventh in Germany’s Bundesliga in the 2024-25 season, but is now fifth under coach Ole Werner, who was hired in the offseason.

Red Bull Salzburg, after a mixed run at last year’s Club World Cup and losing the past two domestic titles, currently leads the Austrian league.

In Major League Soccer, the New York Red Bulls missed the playoffs in 2025, ending a remarkable streak of 15 consecutive postseason appearances.
