New York Giants rookie cornerback Thaddeus Dixon has suffered a devastating setback to his promising NFL career.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed on Thursday that Dixon tore his Achilles during a workout this week.
Dixon was desperately hoping to impress John Harbaugh and Giants staff after being signed as an undrafted free agent.
Later on Thursday, Dixon was placed on injured reserve and he will now miss his entire rookie season.
Thaddeus played in seven games for Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina last season. He had spent the previous two seasons at Washington.
The 24-year-old made 20 tackles and had two tackles for loss during Belichick’s first season in charge in Chapel Hill.

The Giants are pretty well stocked at cornerback after they drafted Colton Hood in the second round and signed free agent Greg Newsome.
Harbaugh and GM Joe Schoen already had cornerbacks Paulson Adebo, Dru Phillips, and Deonte Banks on their roster.
It was announced earlier this week that the Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys in the first ‘Sunday Night Football’ of next season on September 13.
In Week 2, Harbaugh and the Giants will travel across America to play the Los Angeles Rams on ‘Monday Night Football’. Their full schedule will be announced on Thursday night.
