Princess Margaret’s grandson, Sam Chatto, has announced his engagement to fellow artist Eleanor Ekserdjian.
The 29-year-old revealed that he proposed to Ms Ekserdijian, who is also 29, with a unique porcelain ring that he crafted himself.
The couple are planning to marry next spring.
Mr Chatto, a ceramicist, is the son of Queen Elizabeth II’s niece, Lady Sarah Chatto, and her husband Daniel Chatto. Lady Sarah, the daughter of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, is first cousin to the King.
Mr Chatto shared the news on Instagram, writing: “I’m really delighted to say that Ellie and I are engaged. And we couldn’t be happier.
“I proposed with a porcelain ring which I made.”
Ms Ekserdjian, who is known as Ellie, is a painter and film artist. The pair live together in London.
They met while studying at the University of Edinburgh and have been dating since 2021.
The King has been informed of the engagement and is reportedly “very happy” for the couple.
Both families, including Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto, and Ms Ekserdjian’s parents, Professor David Ekserdjian and Susan Moore, are reportedly delighted by the news.
Mr Chatto is 30th in line to the throne, but does not have any official royal duties or titles.
However, he is often seen at official events, such as the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II, the coronation of King Charles III, and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Both of his parents are also artists.
