The daughter of former Premier League footballer Hermann Hreidarsson has followed in his footsteps by making her debut for Iceland’s national team.

Hreidarsson, who was a fan favourite during spells at Portsmouth, Charlton and Ipswich during the 2000s, earned an impressive 89 caps for Iceland during his playing career and is now watching the baton pass to the next generation.

His 23-year-old daughter, Ida Marin Hermannsdottir, made her first senior appearance against Spain last Tuesday before featuring again during Iceland’s 2-0 defeat by England on Saturday.

The former defender, 51, was in attendance at the City Ground to watch Ida Marin in action as she played 63 minutes of the match.

Ida Marin, who plays in midfield, began her career at Icelandic club Fylkir before moving to Valur and later FH (Fimleikafelag Hafnarfjordur) in 2024.

Hreidarsson started out at Icelandic outfit IBV in 1993 before moving to England four years later, where he remained for two decades before returning to his boyhood club 2013.

First joining Crystal Palace in 1997, the left-back went on to represent Brentford, Wimbledon, Ipswich, Charlton, Portsmouth and Coventry, chalking up 332 Premier League appearances during that time.

The greatest moment of his career came during the 2007-08 season, when he helped steer Portsmouth to a historic FA Cup triumph at Wembley.

Since his retirement in 2014, Hreidarsson has gone on to become a manager, coaching several teams in Iceland.

The Premier League cult hero became manager of Valur in 2025, shortly after his daughter’s departure to FH. He won the Icelandic League Cup during his first season in charge.
