Dashcam footage captured the moment a driver who was gambling on his phone crashed into the back of a car, causing a pregnant woman to go into early labour.

Jack Bentley, 30, of Meadow Way, Derby, has been jailed for two years and four months after admitting to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Video shared by Derbyshire Police on Wednesday (25 February) shows Bentley’s Ford Focus weaving between lanes before smashing into the back of a Nissan X Trail, which was then propelled into the back of another vehicle last April.

A pregnant passenger suffered a fractured pelvis and was rushed to hospital where she had to undergo an emergency c-section, giving birth prematurely and leaving her baby in intensive care.

The Nissan’s driver and two other children were also injured, while the family’s pet dog had to undergo emergency surgery.
